Berlin/Cologne. 2015s PDF Days Europe in Cologne has proved a complete success for another year running. Over 100 participants, around half of whom from user firms, took advantage of the opportunity to learn everything they needed to know about the different PDF standards, as well as the latest news and developments in the world of PDF technology, over the course of just two days. Attendees gave particular praise to the events focus on practical applications; with project-related presentations demonstrating concrete application scenarios, and one track dedicated to demonstrating how PDF standards can make day-to-day work easier. The PDF Association used the occasion of PDF/As tenth birthday to award the first PDF/A User Award to DAK-Gesundheit, the health insurance provider which adopted a color scanning system using highly-compressed PDF/A files in 2012.
We are naturally very pleased that the PDF Days Europe has seen such a positive response, and that more and more visitors are coming from other continents such as Asia and Australia, said Thomas Zellmann, managing director of the PDF Association. We can take it as a sign that we made the right decisions regarding the range of subjects discussed and our close focus on practical applications, he said.
At the beginning of this years PDF Days Europe a series of 7 Minutes presentationsallowed users to explain how they have implemented and used PDF standards in their own organizations. Project-related presentations went in-depth with the life insurance firm Alte Leipziger and the Leibniz Institute of Ecological, Urban and Regional Development.
One track on day twos Solutions Day consisted of advice from experts, offering tips and tricks for using PDF documents in practice. Although PDF is now a widespread and popular format, explained Olaf Drümmer, many of our members are finding that most actual functions provided by modern PDF programs remain completely unknown which is why we put this series of presentations on the agenda.
Other presentation tracks running in parallel rounded out the comprehensive knowledge base on offer, covering subjects such as output management, e-invoicing with ZUGFeRD, universally accessible PDF documents, and mobile applications.
Video recordings of these presentations will be available soon at de5.pdfa.org.
